Easter Free Time Activities

The Museum organized a Free Time Activity for children where they had a lot of fun and play.

We started by preparing baskets to put the Easter Eggs in that were later distributed by Caniçal .

In the next day we did a ingenious windmill which we later played in the Museum Garden along side with many skippings and child play.

In the name of The Madeira Whale Museum we wish you all a Happy Easter.

Cetaceans go to school

Cetaceans goes to School is the name of the educational activity developed by the Madeira Whale Museum which enables schools to receive initiatives of enviromental awareness.

This initiative contemplates lectures along side recreational and cultural activities who explores the morfology, biology, ecology and Cetaceans research.

Lectures are organized in themes suited to diferent educational levels and can be done acording to the science academic curriculum  as well as the projects "Eco-Escolas and "Biblioteca Escolar".

During this school year the MBM developed lectures in various schools in the area, allowing the awareness of more than 700 students, mostly from pre-school and primary school.

The Madeira Whale Museum hosted the 30th Annual Conference of the European Cetacean Society held in Madeira, between 14 and 16 of March. The European Cetacean Society was founded in 1987 with the objective to promote and develop research and conservation of marine mammals and collect and disseminate information about them. Every year is organized a conference in a European country in order to promote the exchange of experiences among participants. This year the event was attended approximately by 450 participants from 40 nationalities, who are dedicated to the study and conservation of marine mammals.

The reception ceremony of the attendants in ECS took place at the Madeira Whale Museum, where they commemorate the anniversaries of the ECS (30), of ACCOBAMS (20) and the Madeira Whale Museum (25).

On 12 and 13 of March were held 14 workshops, guided by experts, in which were discussed different current issues. Between the 14th and 16th unfolded the oral and poster presentations, covering the most diverse research aspects of marine mammals, such as: ecology, abundance and distribution, modeling, behavior, strandings, anatomy, genetics, acoustics and human interactions. On the 14th it took place the Video Night where short films were presented, submitted by participants with information and awareness alluding to the theme.
