On Nov. 28th 2007 the Machico Municipality through the Madeira Whale Museum signed a collaboration protocol with the Competence Centre of Exact Sciences and Engineering at University of Madeira. Under this protocol, the MWM’s Educational Services accompanied the development of the masters dissertation of the student Carlos Mendonça supervised by Professor Dr. Paulo Nazareno Maia Sampaio.

The dissertation entitled: "Framework para o Desenvolvimento e Integração de Aplicações de Realidade Virtual, Realidade Aumentada e Multimédia" allowed the development of a 3D children's video that portrays Pintarolas’ adventures in the ocean.

In further collaboration with DREER (Regional Directorate of Special Education and Rehabilitation) enabled the integration in the 3D video, of sign language for the students with hearing problems.

The video has been widely used by the Educational Services for the development of educational activities with students from Pre-School.
